Continuity of Care Midwife in Cairns

Personalised midwifery care from pregnancy through to postpartum. One midwife who knows your story, prepares you for birth, and supports you at home after baby arrives. Private midwifery in Cairns and Far North Queensland.

What Changes When You Have One Midwife

In standard maternity care, you might see a different person at every appointment. You repeat your story. You receive different advice. And by the time you get home with a newborn, the support often drops away completely.

Continuity of care changes that.

With this model, you have one midwife who knows your history, understands your fears, remembers what matters to you, and supports you across your entire journey. From your first appointment through birth preparation and into your postpartum weeks at home.

You’re not starting from scratch at each visit. You’re building a relationship that deepens with time. And that relationship is what makes everything else work better: the education feels relevant, the decisions feel supported, and the postpartum period feels less overwhelming.

That’s what continuity of care actually means. Not just seeing the same face, but being genuinely known.

Everything That’s Part of Your Care

When you choose continuity of care with Beneath the Palms Midwifery, this is what your care includes. No hidden extras. No vague descriptions. Just a clear picture of what you can expect as a private midwifery client in Cairns.

Your Journey from First Conversation to Postpartum

Here’s what working with a continuity of care midwife in Cairns actually looks like, step by step.

Step 1

The First Conversation

A warm, pressure-free chat to talk through where you’re at, what you’re looking for, and whether this feels right. You ask questions, get a clear sense of how everything works. No obligation.

Step 2

Getting to Know You

A longer 90-minute session where Caitlin learns your full story. Medical history, pregnancy history, family context, emotional landscape, and anything important to you. This shapes the foundation of your care plan.

Step 3

Regular Pregnancy Appointments

Ongoing 60-minute appointments throughout your pregnancy, giving you time for education, questions, emotional processing, and thorough clinical care. Available at Freshwater or in your home.

Step 4

Birth Preparation

Two dedicated sessions covering labour education, active birth techniques, birth preferences, and preparing your support person. You’ll go into your birth feeling informed, confident, and clear on your options.

Step 5

Postpartum Preparation

Before baby arrives, Caitlin works with you to create a personalised postpartum plan covering feeding, support structures, emotional wellbeing, and practical preparation

Step 6

Postpartum at Home

Home visits after birth. Your first visit is a comprehensive 90-minute session including birth debriefing and lactation support. Ongoing visits focus on feeding, newborn care, emotional check-ins, and practical guidance.

Step 7

Ongoing Connection

If you need additional support with feeding, settling, or emotional wellbeing beyond your postpartum visits, there are clear pathways for ongoing care.

This May Be Right for You If...

You’re pregnant and want one midwife who knows you throughout your entire journey

You’re a first-time parent wanting more time, clarity, and support than standard care offers

You’re navigating an IVF pregnancy and carrying extra emotional weight

You’ve had a previous birth experience that left you feeling unsupported or dismissed

You want thorough birth preparation so you feel informed and confident going into labour

You want strong postpartum support that continues well beyond the birth

You value informed choice and want a midwife who explains things clearly

You’re looking for private pregnancy support in Cairns that feels personal, grounded, and genuinely supportive

If any of those resonate, a conversation is a good next step.

How Medicare Rebates Work

You pay the full appointment fee at the time of your visit

Caitlin processes your Medicare claim

Your Medicare private midwife rebate is returned directly to your bank account

The difference between the fee and the rebate is your out-of-pocket costity of care in Cairns

Pricing, Medicare Rebates, and What to Expect

Understanding cost is an important part of your decision, and you deserve clarity before you commit to anything.

As an eligible private midwife, many services through Beneath the Palms Midwifery attract a Medicare rebate. This means your out-of-pocket cost is often lower than people expect.

Your total cost will depend on your individual care plan. The clearest way to understand what your care will cost is through a conversation where Caitlin can walk you through it.

Questions About Continuity of Care

Does Beneath the Palms Midwifery attend births?

Caitlin does not provide labour or birthing attendance. Her continuity of care model focuses on pregnancy care, thorough birth preparation, and postpartum support at home. By the time labour begins, you’ll have had in-depth planning sessions, a clear set of birth preferences, and a prepared support person beside you. Many women find this level of preparation gives them the confidence they need going into their birth.

When should I reach out to start care?

As early as feels right for you. Many women get in touch during their first trimester, but there’s no wrong time. If you’re further along, Caitlin can talk through what a care plan looks like from where you are now.

Do I still need to see a GP during pregnancy?

Caitlin provides primary maternity care, so most clients don’t need separate GP pregnancy appointments. If your situation benefits from shared care, she’ll discuss and coordinate this with you.

Where do appointments take place?

Pregnancy appointments are available at the Freshwater clinic or in your home (Palm Cove to Gordonvale, with additional travel costs outside this range). All postpartum visits are in your home.

What if something complex arises during my pregnancy?

Caitlin has referral pathways with GPs, obstetricians, and hospital teams. If your needs change, she’ll communicate openly and collaborate with other providers.

Can my partner attend appointments?

Yes. Partners and support people are welcome at any appointment and especially encouraged at birth preparation sessions.
